Bluejeans AI for "Smart Meetings"

Bluejeans is a visual collaboration and communication platform. The main focus is large meetings, with document sharing, texting and presentations. Many meeting participants struggled to retain key information from lengthy video calls, some requiring 30+ minutes post-meeting t create summaries and action items.

Research and discovery
Customer research showed that 67% wanted automated meeting insights and actionable items.
Extensive research on usability hub and with internal team polling showed that users also wanted to draft messages related to the meetings, and create communications about the meetings to their team members.

New visuals
AI was integrated into Bluejeans directly. A visual design system of icons and animations would blend AI functions into Bluejeans menus and navigation. This enabled the customers to simple select an action they wished to take, without directly prompting the AI to begin the task.

Our AI could also appear in the Bluejeans "Side panel" by selecting the "Denim AI" function in the top menu ribbon. This allowed our AI to prompt the user about what task they wished to accomplish. Initial functions were Summarize a meeting, Summarize a chat, Compose a message.
AI as a widget panels and AI notifications
I leveraged my previous work from the Bluejeans Calling Widget to establish the UX for the AI widget. This allowed the AI Side Panel to "snap" out of the app and transform into a separate multitasking widget. This enabled to user to have the ai functions available on another screen, or separate from the Desktop Bluejeans application. This also allowed us to utilize the desktop notification system and a new Widget notification system.
Multi-modal widget
The widget itself had several "modes" that would call the AI to perform specific tasks. The customer would have the AI summarize a meeting or conversation using a search field or specifying the date of the meeting. The other options were "compose" allowing our customers to create a configurable paragraph of text to place into a SMS, email or post. Additionally, the user could chat with the ai and ask questions related to the meeting or call.

The AI summary feature saves time, increases productivity and enables better decision-making by providing key insights. topics of discussion, and action items associated with people.
Generate a message with a text prompt that is relevant, accurate and tailored to the user's needs. Additionally the user can change the tone and length of the result.
This feature saves time and effort by automating the process of drafting messages, allowing users to communicate more effectively and efficiently.
Results and impact
This AI first initiative was presented to Bluejeans Creative director and VP of design, receiving enthusiastic approval for its innovative approach to integrating AI usage into the Meetings Application. We successfully addressed user issues around meeting summarization of video meetings and retention of meeting information.
